{"id":22007,"date":"2026-05-20T15:17:59","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T15:17:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/?p=22007"},"modified":"2026-05-20T15:22:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T15:22:13","slug":"tragedy-in-bishramganj-woman-dies-while-collecting-edible-snails-to-support-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/index.php\/2026\/05\/20\/tragedy-in-bishramganj-woman-dies-while-collecting-edible-snails-to-support-family\/","title":{"rendered":"Tragedy in Bishramganj: Woman Dies While Collecting Edible Snails to Support Family"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Tripura, May 20:<\/strong> In a heartbreaking incident that reflects the harsh realities faced by many poor rural families, a 50-year-old woman lost her life while collecting edible snails from a pond in Bishramganj under Sepahijala district of Tripura.<br><br>The deceased, identified as Ruban Debbarma, had reportedly gone to the pond near Vidya Jyoti School along with her daughter, Mangalaxmi Debbarma, to collect snails that are later sold in local markets for survival and daily livelihood.<br><br>According to locals, many economically struggling families in rural and Indigenous areas depend on collecting edible water snails from ponds, wetlands, and paddy fields to earn a small income and arrange food for their families. These snails are commonly consumed as food and are sold in village markets.<br><br>Residents explained that there are mainly two types of snails found in the region \u2014 one that lives in water and is edible, and another found on land or soil, which is generally not eaten. Ruban Debbarma and her daughter had entered the deep pond to collect the edible water snails when the tragic accident occurred.<br><br>Eyewitnesses said Ruban suddenly drowned in the deep water while gathering the snails. Her daughter witnessed the horrifying incident helplessly from nearby.<br><br>After receiving information, personnel from the Bishramganj Fire Service rushed to the spot and recovered the woman from the pond before taking her to the hospital.
