{"id":21891,"date":"2026-05-17T13:13:36","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T13:13:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/?p=21891"},"modified":"2026-05-17T13:17:06","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T13:17:06","slug":"one-day-international-seminar-in-agartala-celebrates-literary-and-cultural-legacy-of-prof-nongmaithem-tombi-singh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aguli.in\/index.php\/2026\/05\/17\/one-day-international-seminar-in-agartala-celebrates-literary-and-cultural-legacy-of-prof-nongmaithem-tombi-singh\/","title":{"rendered":"One-day International seminar in Agartala Celebrates Literary and Cultural Legacy of Prof. Nongmaithem Tombi Singh"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Agartala: May 17.<\/strong> Scholars, writers, poets and literary enthusiasts from across India and neighbouring countries gathered here today to celebrate the literary and cultural legacy of noted Manipuri scholar Prof. Nongmaithem Tombi Singh during <strong><em>a one-day international seminar<\/em><\/strong> held at <em><strong>Nazrul Kalakshetra.<\/strong><\/em><br><br>The seminar, organised jointly by the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Tripura and Nongmaithem Foundation at the Sahitya Akademi Hall, focused on <strong>Prof. Nongmaithem Tombi Singh\u2019s<\/strong> immense contribution to Manipuri literature, literary criticism and cultural studies.<br><br>Addressing the inaugural session as chief guest, A. K. Sheram stressed the importance of preserving regional languages and literature in the era of globalization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the works of Prof. Tombi Singh continued to shape understanding of the cultural identity and social realities of Northeast India and played a major role in preserving Manipuri heritage both in India and among Manipuri communities abroad.<br \/><br \/>During the programme, eminent literary figure Kshetrimayum Madhabi was conferred the \u201cNongmaithem Tombi Ningsing Mana\u201d award for the first time.<br \/><br \/>The seminar featured presentations and discussions by several noted scholars and writers, including <strong><em>L. Birmangal, W. Brimangal, Dr. Anuradha Nongmaithem, Kabrabam Dhiren, K. Birola and L. Mina<\/em><\/strong>.<br \/><br \/>Speaking at the seminar, L. Birmangal recalled his association with Prof. Tombi Singh, described him as a guiding force for generations of young writers and researchers. He highlighted the late scholar\u2019s role in promoting Manipuri literature and culture at both national and international levels.<br \/><br \/>Participants discussed Prof. Tombi Singh\u2019s poetry, essays, literary criticism and scholarly works on Manipuri society and traditions, while emphasising the continued relevance of his writings in contemporary academic and cultural studies.<br \/><br \/>A special poetry recitation session dedicated to the late scholar was also organised, where poets from Tripura recited poems in his memory.<br \/><br \/>The programme began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp and concluded with a valedictory session, where organisers thanked participants and delegates for supporting efforts to promote Manipuri literary heritage and regional literature.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Agartala: May 17.
