Tripura, 13 May 2026<\/strong>: A dispute between a landlord and her tenant in Shalbagan Market has escalated into allegations of assault, intimidation, and police inaction, after the landlord claimed that the accused tenant refused to vacate the rented house despite repeated requests.

Speaking to the media, Arati Debnath alleged that a man identified as Manik Sarkar and his family had rented her house in November 2025 but later became involved in suspicious activities.

According to Arati Debnath, the tenant allegedly failed to provide proper identification documents after moving in. She claimed that police had also visited the house seeking documents, but the family could not produce them at the time.

The landlord further alleged that she later came to know that the tenant was reportedly linked to a motor theft case in the locality. After learning this, she repeatedly asked the family to vacate the house, but they allegedly refused to leave for several months.

She also claimed that during the dispute, the accused and his family members verbally abused her and her family members publicly, damaging their social reputation. According to the complaint, tensions intensified when the tenant allegedly returned on May 3 to collect remaining belongings from the rented premises.

Arati Debnath alleged that when she asked them to clear pending dues before taking the belongings, she was pushed to the ground and physically assaulted. She claimed to have suffered pain in her right hand and head following the incident and later sought medical treatment at GB Hospital.

Her daughter also alleged that the accused persons misbehaved with them, used abusive language, and attempted to assault them with shoes during the altercation.

The family further accused the police of not providing a receiving copy of their FIR after it was submitted at Airport Police Station. According to them, police officials stated that they would first conduct an inquiry before issuing the receiving copy.

The complainants questioned the role of the police, alleging that despite showing videos and submitting written complaints, no immediate action had been taken.
