In a significant and unexpected political development, former Congress leader and founder of the People\u2019s Party, Daniel Langthasa, formally joined the National People\u2019s Party (NPP) on Thursday at a massive public convention held in Maibang, Dima Hasao district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Langthasa, who began his political career with the Indian National Congress and later launched his own regional outfit the People\u2019s Party in September 2025 to champion indigenous rights, made the move in the presence of Tipra Motha Founder and Royal Scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma. Prominent \u201cOne North East\u201d leaders, including Mmhonlumo Kikon former Spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party and other senior representatives and NPP Working President James K. Sangma, were also present at the high-profile gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His induction is being viewed as a major political shift in the hill district, given his long-standing association with regional and Congress politics in Dima Hasao. The event witnessed a massive turnout, reflecting his influence in the constituency and signaling a potential realignment in the local political landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Welcoming him into the party fold, NPP leaders described the move as a strategic boost to the party\u2019s growing footprint in Assam, particularly in tribal-dominated areas.
