Tripura, 08 Feb 2026<\/strong>: A serious criminal attack was reported in Khumulwng late last night, where journalist Ashish Debbarma<\/strong>, a reporter associated with Dongur TV Channel and One of My Friends, narrowly escaped an alleged attempt on his life. The incident occurred in front of the Agriculture Office Gate while the journalist was returning home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged at Radhapur Police Station<\/strong>, the attack took place around 11:10 PM on February 7. The complainant stated that he was intercepted and forcefully restrained by two individuals. One of the accused has been identified as Swadesh Debbarma<\/strong>, son of Arjun Debbarma, a resident of Bahuram Sardar Para. The identity of the second assailant is yet to be confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FIR alleges that the attackers assaulted the journalist with wooden sticks and a sharp pistol handle, causing grievous injuries to his head, face, chest, and back. The attackers also allegedly hurled verbal abuse and issued life threats. The victim was rescued following the timely intervention of passersby, after which the accused fled the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ashish Debbarma is currently undergoing medical treatment at Kherengbar Hospital<\/strong>. He also reported the loss of a silver chain and cash amounting to approximately \u20b92,000 during the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FIR seeks registration of the case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of attempt to murder, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, and criminal intimidation. Police have initiated an investigation and assured necessary legal action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media Delegation Submits FIR<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a show of solidarity, a delegation of journalists visited Agartala Press Club<\/strong> today. The delegation included Press Club President Pranab Sarkar<\/strong>, Khumulwng Press Club and Chini Khorang Editor Ranjit Debbarma<\/strong>, the Secretary, and several senior media professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation collectively submitted a copy of the FIR at Radhapur Police Station, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and strict action to ensure the safety of journalists working in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
