Agartala, 06 Feb 2026:<\/strong> In a significant crackdown on the illegal drug trade, Tripura Police seized 500 bottles of prohibited cough syrup during a late-night raid at West Champamura under the jurisdiction of Agartala<\/strong>. Two persons were arrested in connection with the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acting on specific intelligence inputs received between 4:30 pm and 4:45 pm on Tuesday, a joint team of Purba Police Station and MBB College Outpost Police conducted the operation. The information indicated that a residential house in West Champamura was being used to store NDPS-related substances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After verifying the input with senior officers, a police team led by College Layer OC Shyamal Debnath, along with Sub-Inspector Samaresh Rakhma, other police personnel, and TSR jawans, rushed to the location. Following due legal procedure, the house was cordoned off and a thorough search was conducted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the search, police detained two individuals \u2014 Subhash Chandra Das, the owner of the house, and Sameer Chakraborty, a resident of a neighbouring house. Three white sacks containing a total of 500 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup were recovered from the premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police sources, during preliminary interrogation both accused allegedly admitted their involvement in the illegal cough syrup trade. Along with the contraband, mobile phones belonging to the accused were seized for further investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and both accused have been formally arrested. Police said they will be produced before the court today, where investigators will seek seven days\u2019 police remand to facilitate a detailed probe and trace the wider supply network linked to the racket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per initial estimates, the seized cough syrup is valued at approximately \u20b97.5 lakh in the illegal market, with each bottle fetching around \u20b91,500. Police officials stated that further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses and efforts are underway to dismantle the entire network involved in the illicit trade.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
