Agartala: Jan 9: In a significant development in the Prasenjit Sarkar murder case, the Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Court on Friday rejected the bail plea of all five accused once again and ordered them to remain in judicial custody till January 22.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court observed that the case is still under investigation and, considering its seriousness and sensitive nature, granting bail at this stage would not be appropriate.
Earlier, on January 3, the court had dismissed the first round of bail applications and sent the accused to judicial custody till January 9. On Friday, the defence renewed their bail plea, leading to a prolonged legal battle between the prosecution and defence counsels.
However, the prosecution strongly opposed the bail, submitting relevant documents and evidence before the court. The judge ultimately ruled in favour of continued judicial custody.
Sources said the accused have moved bail applications multiple times, all of which have been rejected so far. Senior advocates Biswajit Das and Debdas Bakshi are representing the victim\u2019s side in the case.
The family of the deceased expressed satisfaction over the court\u2019s decision, calling it \u201ca major step towards justice.\u201d
\u201cThis order strengthens our faith in the judicial process. We hope the truth will come out soon and the guilty will receive strict punishment,\u201d family members said.
The Prasenjit Sarkar murder case has triggered widespread anger, tension, and protests in the area for a long time.
