Tripura, 07 Jan 2026:<\/strong> Students of Tripura University organized a peaceful protest demonstration inside the university campus demanding justice for Anjel Chakma. The initiative was taken by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, in the presence of Dr. Sunil Kalai, Dr. Deepak Upadhyaya, and other faculty members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holding banners reading \u201cStop Racial Discrimination\u201d and \u201cJustice for Anjel Chakma \u2013 Say No to Hate Crime,\u201d the students expressed solidarity against racism and violence faced by students from the Northeast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protest highlighted growing concerns over the safety, discrimination, and hate crimes targeting students from the region outside their home states. Participants strongly condemned racial discrimination and called upon the authorities to ensure a fair and speedy investigation into the incident. They also urged the government to take stronger measures to protect the dignity, equality, and fundamental rights of students across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to the media, Prof. Alak Bhattacharjee of the Political Science Department said that their participation in the protest was driven by humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRacism and inhuman treatment have no place in a modern democracy. These are against the very spirit of humanity. Any citizen has the constitutional right to go anywhere in the country. Unfortunately, some people still carry this divisive mindset. The government has taken strong steps, and as members of the academic community, we want strict and exemplary punishment. Society cannot bear such crimes. As teachers, when we place flowers on the photo of a deceased student, our hearts break,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further added, \u201cWhether from the Northeast, Kashmir, or Kanyakumari \u2013 from North to South \u2013 no student, no human being should ever fall victim to such brutality. It is our collective responsibility to ensure justice and demand exemplary action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protesters thanked all those who joined and supported the movement, reiterating their demand for justice for Anjel Chakma and an end to racial discrimination and hate crimes in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
