Agartala: Jan 05. Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Jitendra Chaudhury, has urged the state government to seek a government job for a family member of Anjel Chakma, a Tripura youth who died after being stabbed in Dehradun last month, calling financial compensation \u201cinsufficient and unjust.\u201d
After visiting Anjel\u2019s family at Machmara village in Unakoti district on Sunday, Chaudhury criticised the Uttarakhand Police for alleged lapses in the early stage of the investigation. He claimed the case was initially registered under a less stringent legal section, despite Anjel having suffered serious stab injuries.
Anjel Chakma was stabbed on December 9 in Dehradun after he reportedly objected to a racial slur. He later succumbed to his injuries on December 26.
Chaudhury also echoed the family\u2019s allegation that timely and proper medical treatment could have saved Anjel\u2019s life, raising questions over both police action and hospital care. \u201cThe manner in which the case was handled raises serious concerns,\u201d he said.
Stressing that compensation cannot replace a life, he appealed to the Tripura government to formally approach Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to secure a government job for one of Anjel\u2019s family members. He noted that Anjel was an MBA student in Dehradun, while his father, Tarun Prasad Chakma, a serving BSF jawan, is set to retire next year.
\u201cMoney is not the price of Anjel Chakma\u2019s life. A government job would ensure long-term security for the family,\u201d Chaudhury said.
Following the incident, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) administration handed over Rs 3 lakh to the bereaved family, then the Uttarakhand government provided Rs 4.12 lakh, while the Tripura government also extended Rs 5 lakh as financial assistance. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
