From crowded city streets to quiet spiritual centres, celebrations unfolded across the country despite dense fog in the north, unseasonal showers in parts of the west, and biting cold in several regions. Tight security arrangements and traffic controls ensured that festivities remained largely peaceful and well-managed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended New Year greetings to the nation, praying for peace, prosperity, good health, and fulfillment for all. Chief Ministers and leaders across states echoed similar messages, underlining hopes for harmony and progress in the year ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North India<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In New Delhi, iconic locations such as Connaught Place and India Gate witnessed large crowds for countdowns and fireworks. Chilly temperatures and thick fog kept some residents indoors, while police deployed thousands of personnel and enforced strict drunk-driving checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across Uttar Pradesh, devotees thronged Varanasi for the famed Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, where 1,001 lamps lit up the riverfront with \u201cSwagatam 2026.\u201d Vrindavan saw heavy footfall at the Banke Bihari Temple as devotees offered prayers for the new year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
