Tripura, 31 Dec 2025:<\/strong> The Tipra Motha party has suspended party leader Sukumar Debbarma from his primary membership and all organisational positions following allegations of making divisive and derogatory remarks against the Chakma community<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The action comes after a video surfaced from the Dumboor and Gandatwisa areas, in which Debbarma was allegedly heard making controversial comments targeting members of the Chakma community. In the video, he reportedly claimed that Chakma people do not know the Kokborok language and therefore labelled them as \u201cBangladeshi<\/strong>,\u201d a statement widely condemned as irresponsible and inflammatory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reacting strongly, the Tipra Motha leadership stated that such ethnic hate speech and divisive remarks are completely against the party\u2019s ideology and values. The party reiterated that Tripura is home to diverse Indigenous communities, each with its own language and culture, and that no individual or group can be judged or branded as outsiders based on language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspension decision was taken immediately after the video went public and following strong public outrage. The issue further escalated after a press conference by the Tripura Chakma Students Association<\/a><\/strong>, which demanded strict action against the remarks and accountability from the party leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
