Northeast, 30 Dec 2025<\/strong>: The North East Students\u2019 Organisation (NESO) has submitted a memorandum to Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, seeking urgent intervention in connection with the brutal killing of a Tripura student, Angel Chakma, in Dehradun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the memorandum dated December 30, 2025, NESO stated that the incident took place on December 9, 2025, when Angel Chakma, aged 24, was allegedly beaten and stabbed. He succumbed to his injuries on December 26 after remaining under treatment for over two weeks. NESO further alleged that Angel Chakma\u2019s brother, Micheal Chakma, was also assaulted during the same incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organisation claimed that the attack was racially motivated, alleging that the victims were targeted and subjected to racial abuse for looking different. NESO strongly condemned the incident, stating that people from the North Eastern region have repeatedly faced harassment and violence in different parts of the country, with several cases proving fatal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The memorandum urged the Uttarakhand government to take effective steps to ensure the mental, social, and physical security of students and residents from the North East studying and living in Dehradun and other parts of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NESO placed three key demands before the government: strict and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators of the crime at the earliest, establishment of at least one special police station to deal with cases related to racial discrimination and atrocities against people from the North East, and enactment of a stringent anti-racism law to curb racial discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The apex students\u2019 body expressed hope that the state government would take urgent and decisive action to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure justice for the victim.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
