Ration dealer Umapada Das narrowly escaped with his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">According to local sources, ration distribution was underway when a heavy branch of the decades-old banyan tree suddenly snapped and crashed through the shop\u2019s roof. Hearing the loud crash and the dealer\u2019s cries for help, locals rushed to the spot and managed to rescue him after considerable effort. A nearby tea stall was also severely damaged in the incident, spreading panic across the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">Residents alleged that the banyan tree had long posed a danger, with several branches showing signs of weakening. Despite multiple complaints to the Kalyanpur Forest Department, no preventive action was taken. Locals have blamed the negligence of the Forest Department for today\u2019s accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">Meanwhile, angry residents have demanded immediate compensation for the affected shopkeepers.
