Agartala: Nov 13. Tripura Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman on Thursday urged students to embrace the true spirit of the National Service Scheme (NSS) by developing a mindset of social service, discipline, and responsibility toward the nation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a blood donation camp held during the seven-day special NSS camp at Sonamura PM Shri Nabadwip Chandra Institution, he called upon students to go beyond mere participation and truly embody the values of national service.

The Minister Barman cautioned that NSS or NCC membership should not be viewed as a formality but as an opportunity to build character and contribute meaningfully to society and the state.

Recalling earlier times, Barman expressed disappointment that in the past, some students misused such platforms spending nights engaging in substance abuse and unruly dancing after awareness programmes during the day. He said he had strongly disapproved of such behavior during his own student days.

The minister also took a dig at the Left student organisation SFI, accusing it of failing to instill national pride among students. \u201cSFI never taught the students about India\u2019s glory. Instead, they glorified Lenin and Stalin,\u201d Barman remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He urged the youth to understand the real purpose of NSS to develop moral and civic values that benefit both society and the nation.

The event was also attended by Sonamura Nagar Panchayat Vice-Chairman Shahjan Mia, social workers Uttam Das and Shubhrajit Das, members of the school\u2019s managing committee, the headmaster, and other teachers.
