Agartala: Nov 01. The State Government of Tripura has sought an adjournment from the Supreme Court in the case W.P.(C) No. 786\/2025 \u2013 Pradyot Deb Burman vs. Union of India, citing the need for additional time to file its reply affidavit.
The matter, listed before a Bench comprising Hon\u2019ble Chief Justice and Justice K. Vinod Chandran (Court No. 1, Item No. 45), is scheduled for hearing on November 3, 2025. Advocate Shuvodeep Roy, appearing for the Respondent-State of Tripura, filed an application on Saturday requesting a two-week adjournment, stating that \u201ccomplete instructions are awaited\u201d to prepare the affidavit.
The petition, filed by Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Bubagra Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, challenges the delay in holding the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committees (VC) elections which have not been conducted in nearly a decade.
Reacting sharply to the state\u2019s move, Bubagra Pradyot wrote in social media it reads, \u201cThe government advocate has asked for more time to frame a reply in the Supreme Court. They, in reality, have no justification for the delay in the VC elections. Justice is being denied to the Tiprasa people, and we hope the Supreme Court will come down firmly on the state.\u201d
The case highlights growing discontent among Tiprasa communities over the prolonged postponement of the VCs polls, last held around ten years ago, amid mounting political and constitutional questions surrounding local governance in Tripura\u2019s Tiprasa regions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
