Agartala, 26 Sep 2026:<\/strong> A press meet was held today by social worker Tapan Roy<\/strong> on behalf of Netaji Club, Ujan Abhoynagar<\/strong>, in connection with a recent incident that went viral on social media regarding the collection of \u201cchanda\u201d<\/em> (donation) for the upcoming Durga Puja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The viral video alleged that some club members demanded money from a student tenant of a rented house, warning him to vacate if he refused to contribute. Addressing the media, Roy extended Bijoya greetings and clarified the club\u2019s position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was a very minor issue which was unnecessarily propagated on social media. Our club boys had gone to collect puja donations, as is customary. The house owner had no objection and was happy to contribute. However, one of the tenants, identifying himself as a student, refused to pay more than \u20b9100. During the exchange, someone from our side made an undesirable remark suggesting he should vacate the house if he couldn\u2019t pay. That comment was absolutely unnecessary and wrong. Our boys have realized their mistake, and the matter was amicably settled at the police station in the presence of both parties.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Roy emphasized that there was no violence, provocation, or altercation<\/strong>, and that the issue was resolved with written confessions from both sides. He urged people not to believe in false propaganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the role of local youths, he said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSociety often calls them \u2018bad boys\u2019 or \u2018mafia,\u2019 but in times of crisis like floods, fires, or social emergencies, these same boys are the first to extend help. Collecting puja donations sometimes requires repeated visits, and people may feel disturbed\u2014but that should not be exaggerated into a controversy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He appealed to the people of Tripura to maintain communal harmony during all religious festivals\u2014Durga Puja, Eid, Christmas, or others\u2014describing them as \u201cplatforms of unity and shared joy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the role of police, Roy said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPolice are part of our society too. They sacrifice family time and work tirelessly to ensure peace during the pujas. We salute them. Netaji Club volunteers will assist in maintaining peace and reduce their burden.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Responding to a question on the chief minister\u2019s remarks regarding donation collection, Roy assured strict compliance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe take the Chief Minister\u2019s words very seriously. I promise there will be no such complaints in the coming days. Donations will be collected peacefully, and no one will be harassed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The press meet concluded with Roy reiterating that Netaji Club\u2019s priority is to ensure peace, harmony, and joy for all during Durga Puja<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
