A video that went viral on social media shows members of a local puja committee allegedly pressuring students for money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">According to reports, students from hilly and rural areas who rent low-cost accommodations in Abhoynagar for their studies were approached by members of the Netaji Club Puja Committee, who allegedly demanded \u20b9300 from each student. In the viral video, the committee members can be heard saying: \u201cYou can pay thousands in rent every year, but if you cannot pay \u20b9300 for puja donation, you should vacate your room.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">The incident has drawn sharp criticism from prominent MLA Ranjit Debbarma, who termed it \u201cextremely unfortunate\u201d and unacceptable. He said, \u201cSuch extortion cannot be tolerated. The Chief Minister has already stated that if such coercion comes to light, the concerned puja will be shut down. Therefore, I appeal to the Chief Minister to take immediate action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">Debbarma specifically named the Netaji Club as the committee involved and urged the government to shut down this puja to set an example for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\">The incident has triggered anger not only among the affected students but also among the general public.
