Tripura, September 25, 2025:<\/strong> The College of Fisheries, CAU (Imphal), Lembucherra, Tripura, virtually participated in the inauguration of the Academic and Administrative Building, Narendra Boys\u2019 Hostel, and Kanchenjung Girls\u2019 Hostel of the College of Horticulture, CAU (Imphal), Bermiok, Sikkim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme was graced by Shri Om Prakash Mathur, Hon\u2019ble Governor of Sikkim as Chief Guest; Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers\u2019 Welfare; Shri Puran Kumar Gurung, Hon\u2019ble Agriculture Minister of Sikkim; and Shri B. S. Panth, Hon\u2019ble MLA, Temi-Namphing, in the presence of Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, CAU (Imphal) and other distinguished dignitaries. The event was also virtually witnessed by Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Hon\u2019ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers\u2019 Welfare, Govt. of India, and Dr. M. L. Jat, Director General, ICAR, New Delhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the outset, Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, CAU (Imphal), delivered the welcome address, extending warm greetings to the dignitaries, guests, farmers, faculty members, and students. He highlighted the significance of the occasion and reiterated the University\u2019s commitment to advancing agricultural education, research, and extension, especially for the benefit of farmers in the North Eastern region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his inaugural address, Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, MoS, stressed that India\u2019s development is incomplete without the development of its farmers. He underlined the Prime Minister\u2019s vision of doubling farmers\u2019 income and spoke about the benefits of government subsidies on fertilizers. He also highlighted initiatives promoting natural and organic farming for soil health and sustainability. Shri Choudhary informed that the Government has taken a significant step by deciding to bear 50% of the transportation cost of exporting agricultural commodities from North East India. He further emphasized strengthening Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to empower farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur, in his address, recalled the Prime Minister\u2019s description of North East India as Astalakshmi, underscoring its immense potential. He highlighted the crucial role of KVKs in transferring agricultural knowledge and technology at the grassroots level. Shri Mathur lauded the PM-KISAN DBT scheme for providing timely financial assistance to farmers and urged research initiatives to conserve large cardamom, a valuable crop of the region.
