Agartala, Sept 13, 2025:<\/strong>\u00a0The ICFRE-Livelihood Extension Centre (LEC), a unit under ICFRE-RFRI Jorhat, Assam, successfully organized a day-long\u00a0Tree Growers\u2019 Mela<\/em>\u00a0at the Tripura State Forest Academy playground, Gandhigram yesterday. The event saw participation from over 300 attendees, including farmers, tree growers, NGO and SHG members, students, government officials, and civil society representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mela was inaugurated by\u00a0 Jitendra Majumder, MLA<\/strong>, who highlighted environmental challenges facing Tripura. He urged participants to not only plant trees but also nurture existing ones for a sustainable future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inaugural session was graced by Dr. Abhinav Kant, Director, BCDI Agartala; Smt. Paushali Roy, IFS, Director, TSFA; Sri Prasada Rao V., IFS, Director (Livelihood), Tripura JICA;<\/strong> and Sri R. K. Kalita, Head, ICFRE-LEC.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A key highlight of the mela was the launch of\u00a0Biochar Super Compost<\/strong>, a product developed through extensive research at ICFRE-LEC. Principal Investigator\u00a0Ajoy Debbarma<\/strong>\u00a0introduced the innovation, while four new extension pamphlets were also released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An exhibition showcasing local products was inaugurated by the MLA, who encouraged artisans and entrepreneurs to improve branding and explore markets beyond Tripura to boost profits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mela also featured a\u00a0Farmers\u2019-Scientist interaction<\/strong>, where\u00a0Niren Das, Chief Technical Officer,<\/strong>\u00a0conducted a live demonstration on vermicomposting. Training sessions on livelihood opportunities in Tripura were conducted by\u00a0R. K. Kalita<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0 Ajoy Debbarma.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
