Agartala, September 3:<\/strong> The late-night security breach at the MLA Hostel, where TIPRA Motha legislator Philip Reang<\/a><\/strong> was allegedly threatened by miscreants, has sparked a major political row in Tripura. Leaders from the ruling BJP, as well as opposition CPI(M) and Congress, issued sharp reactions on Tuesday, terming the incident a serious lapse in law and order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BJP Reaction<\/strong>
Tripura BJP president and MP Rajib Bhattacharjee said the government is taking the matter seriously. \u201cThe moment the incident was reported, police reached the hostel. Our Deputy Speaker also rushed to enquire into the situation. Law and order is our top priority. Whoever is responsible for disturbing peace no matter who they are law will take its own course, and strict action will follow,\u201d Bhattacharjee told the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CPI(M) Response<\/strong>
Leader of Opposition Jitendra Choudhury lashed out at the BJP, alleging complete collapse of law and order under the present government. \u201cThe state is now in the grip of anti-social mafia forces, while the police remain inactive and partisan. What happened inside the MLA Hostel is not accidental. These miscreants are not unknown CCTV footage will clearly reveal their identities. For the past seven-and-a-half years, BJP has failed to deliver on its promises, creating deep frustration among the people and even within its own ranks. Yesterday\u2019s threat to a TIPRA Motha MLA by drunk assailants inside the hostel is proof of this anarchy,\u201d Choudhury said. He also accused BJP of instigating violence against opposition programmes, citing attacks in Udaipur and Agartala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congress Reaction<\/strong>
Tripura Congress president Ashish Saha described the incident as \u201ca reflection of the ultimate deterioration of law and order.\u201d He recalled earlier attacks on opposition MLAs\u2019 residences, including that of Sudip Roy Barman, and said the government had failed to act even then. \u201cThis latest incident shows that not only the opposition but even ruling party allies are unsafe in their official residences. The attackers were reportedly released casually, as if the matter was a child\u2019s play. It proves that in Tripura today, no one be it common citizens, opposition leaders, or even ruling party MLAs has any security. The administration and government are indifferent, and people are watching this with anger and fear,\u201d Saha remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MLA Hostel incident has now escalated into a major political controversy, with opposition parties accusing the BJP-led government of lawlessness, while the ruling party insists action will be taken and security further tightened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
