Agartala, Aug 20:<\/strong> The\u00a034th Manipuri Language Day<\/strong>\u00a0celebrations began today at\u00a0Nazrul Kalakshetra, Agartala<\/strong>, in a two-day program organized by the Directorate of Kokborok & Other Minority Languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by L. Joychandra Singh, President of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal<\/strong>, who formally inaugurated the event. In his address, he emphasized that respect and love for one\u2019s mother tongue is the true identity of a nation<\/strong>, noting that Manipuri is one of the ancient languages of Indian culture. He recalled that Manipuri was included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution on August 20, 1992<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speakers at the event included Nila Kumar Sinha, Vice-Chairman of Manipuri Language Development Advisory Committee<\/strong>, L. Birmangal Singh, President of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Tripura Branch<\/strong>, Anandahari Jamatia, Director of Kokborok & Other Minority Languages<\/strong>, and Sabyasachi Singh, Deputy Director of the department<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the program, four eminent personalities were felicitated<\/strong> for their special contributions to the growth of Manipuri literature and culture. The celebration began with a colorful rally<\/strong> that paraded through the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
