Agartala, August 19: <\/strong>Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today paid glowing tribute to Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Debbarma, describing him as a visionary king and the true architect of modern Tripura. The Chief Minister inaugurated the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Bir Bikram Memorial College (BBM College) and unveiled the statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram installed on the college premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Saha said, \u201cMaharaja Bir Bikram was not only a king but also a forward-looking ruler who worked tirelessly for the progress of Tripura in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He laid the foundation of modern Agartala, ensuring proper planning of roads and urban facilities. He proved through his deeds that life\u2019s true value lies in creating exemplary contributions for society.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Minister highlighted that the present state government is working to modernize and implement the Maharaja\u2019s vision. Recalling the king\u2019s passion for education, he noted that Maharaja Bir Bikram had once envisioned establishing a unique university in Agartala under a project called \u201cVidya Patan.\u201d The CM added, \u201cIn honor of his contribution, the state government has named the Agartala airport and a university after Maharaja Bir Bikram, besides installing his statue at Agartala\u2019s Kaman Chowmuhani.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Saha further remarked that no previous government had meaningfully honored Maharaja Bir Bikram, whereas the present government is paying true respect through its work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the students, the Chief Minister said that BBM College has produced many students who have earned recognition in India and abroad. He urged students not only to focus on good academic results but also to become responsible citizens, contribute to society, and adapt themselves to the realities of the modern world. Stressing on the government\u2019s mission of building a drug-free Tripura, he appealed to students to stay away from addiction and inspire others to follow the same path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CM also linked the state\u2019s development journey with Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s vision of a \u201cNew and Self-Reliant India.\u201d He encouraged students and youth to take a leading role in this effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, speaking as a special guest, said Maharaja Bir Bikram achieved remarkable progress for Tripura within his short lifespan of 39 years. He emphasized that it was due to the Maharaja\u2019s determination and farsightedness that Tripura became part of the Indian Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other dignitaries addressing the event included Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Bir Bikram University Dr. Bibhas Deb and Director of Higher Education Animesh Debbarma. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Rupak Das of BBM College, while Principal-in-Charge Mrinal Dasgupta proposed the vote of thanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the celebration, the Chief Minister, along with other guests, released a souvenir and the annual report of BBM College. They also visited 18 exhibition stalls displaying products prepared by the students of the college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
