Gangtok, August 18:<\/strong> The Sukhim Yakthung Sapsok Songchumbho (SYSS), a socio-cultural organization of the Limboo community in Sikkim, has strongly objected to the dress design worn by Miss Universe India 2025 contestant Jackielynn Pradhan, calling it a case of cultural misappropriation and deep insensitivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a press release issued on Monday, SYSS said that Pradhan, in one of her recent appearances, was seen wearing an ornament resembling Samyangphung<\/em> below her waist at the front. The organization termed the act \u201chighly objectionable,\u201d stressing that Samyangphung<\/em> is not an accessory but a sacred cultural symbol of the Limboo community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSamyangphung is not a mere ornament it is a sacred cultural symbol of the Limboo Tribal community, traditionally worn with reverence on the head by Limbooni women. Placing such a sacred symbol inappropriately is deeply hurtful to the sentiments of the entire Limboo community,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SYSS, on behalf of all Sikkimese Limboos, strongly condemned the act and warned against misusing cultural symbols in fashion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The controversy further intensified after Mr. Bijay Subba released a video attempting to clarify the issue, which SYSS described as \u201cnot at all satisfactory.\u201d Subsequently, designer Vhaibhav Yadav, associated with the costume design, also circulated a video claiming that the ornament was inspired by an \u201cEgyptian Queen motif.\u201d SYSS dismissed this explanation as incorrect and unsatisfactory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn behalf of the entire Limboo tribal community of Sikkim, we condemn both the clarification and the costume design. If proper clarification is not provided, SYSS will be compelled to initiate strict action against the person concerned,\u201d the press release added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Limboo community, one of the recognized tribes of Sikkim, regards Samyangphung <\/strong>as a sacred identity symbol traditionally worn with reverence.
