CM Manik Saha Stresses Technology and Awareness in Disaster Management at SDMP 2024\u201325 Launch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agartala, August 4:<\/strong> Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today emphasized the importance of leveraging new technology in rescue operations and building public awareness to minimize loss of life and property during disasters. He also underscored the need to enhance the skills of personnel and volunteers involved in disaster response. The Chief Minister made these remarks while inaugurating various programs of the Revenue Department at Conference Hall No. 2 of the State Secretariat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the occasion, the Chief Minister unveiled the State Disaster Management Plan (SDMP) for the financial year 2024\u201325<\/strong>. He also virtually inaugurated several key initiatives, including a \u20b95 crore Technology Demonstration Unit<\/strong> at Hapania, the Civil Defence Training Scheme<\/strong>, 26 Automated Weather Stations<\/strong>, Rain Gauges<\/strong>, a Disaster Management Equipment Verification Portal<\/strong>, and the Change of Land Use (Diversion of Land) Portal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his speech, CM Manik Saha said, \u201cWe are living in an era of technology and artificial intelligence, and these tools must be prioritized in disaster management.\u201d He recalled major disasters that have hit Tripura recently\u2014Cyclones Sitrang (2022), Mocha (2023), and Remal (2024), as well as devastating floods in 2018 and 2024. \u201cThese incidents highlight the urgent need for preparedness,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of improving camp management and addressing gaps in disaster response. He noted that the State Disaster Management Plan 2024\u201325<\/strong> is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s visionary approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thousands of volunteers will be trained at the Hapania Technology Demonstration Unit to enhance their capacity for emergency response. Under the Civil Defence Training Scheme<\/strong>, 2,880 volunteers<\/strong> will receive training. The CM expressed gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for selecting Tripura for the scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the need for accurate and timely weather forecasts, he said that 26 automated weather stations and rain gauges have already been installed. Plans are underway to set up a Doppler Weather Radar Station<\/strong> in Belonia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the Equipment Verification Portal<\/strong>, the CM said it will allow for real-time tracking of disaster-response materials stored at district, sub-divisional, and TSR battalion levels. \u201cThis will help monitor the condition and quantity of critical equipment,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also said the Change of Land Use Portal<\/strong> will simplify and streamline the land-use approval process, making it more transparent and business-friendly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the role of the media, CM Saha noted that the press serves as a vital bridge between the government and the people, keeping citizens informed about government initiatives. He expressed hope that the media will continue its constructive role by preventing the spread of misinformation and panic during emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, in his remarks, said the SDMP is not just a blueprint but a reflection of Tripura\u2019s technological progress and collective commitment.
