Agartala, June 28, 2025:<\/strong> Highlighting the growing threat of cybercrime in the state, Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said<\/a><\/strong> that evolving policing mechanisms are crucial to protect citizens from digital fraud and attacks. Speaking at the inauguration of the new Cyber Crime Police Station at Drop Gate, Arundhatinagar, the Chief Minister said that many people across Tripura have been victims of cybercrime, often losing their life savings. “Cybercrime is like fighting a shadow,”<\/strong> he remarked, emphasizing the difficulty in identifying such criminals. He stressed the need for high-level training for police officials and personnel to effectively investigate such crimes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many officers from the state have already received training from outside the state, he noted. While technology brings numerous benefits, the Chief Minister warned about its misuse. He pointed out that cybercriminals are attempting to use Tripura as a corridor for illegal activities and called for heightened vigilance and strict action by the police department. He urged citizens to immediately seek police help if they fall victim to any cybercrime and stressed the importance of reporting incidents via toll-free numbers 112 or 1930. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Saha also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s vision of leading the nation through technological advancement, adding that the state government is aligned with that mission. He expressed hope that the new Cyber Crime Police Station would earn public trust and function with high efficiency. Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag, who also spoke at the event, said cybercrime is rapidly increasing worldwide. Acting on the Chief Minister\u2019s instructions, efforts are underway to modernize the state’s police administration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, the crime rate in Tripura dropped by 20% in 2024 compared to 2023. Notably, approximately \u20b95.46 crore has been recovered through cyber security efforts, and \u20b932 lakh has already been returned to victims after completing legal procedures. Also present at the inauguration were Home Secretary Abhishek Singh, ADGP M. Rajamurugan, and senior police official G.S. Rao, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
