Agartala, June 1, 2025:<\/strong> Tripura witnessed intense monsoon activity over the past two days, with widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall triggering floods and disruptions across several districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Agartala Centre, has issued a Red Alert for the entire state, forecasting more heavy to extremely heavy rains today and tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to official data, Bodhjung Nagar in West Tripura recorded the highest rainfall at 198.5 mm, followed by Kailashahar (192.2 mm), Jirania (175.5 mm), and Agartala (140 mm) within the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, the Tripura Government has mobilized 14 rescue teams across West Tripura and Unakoti districts. These include personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, Assam Rifles, Fire & Emergency Services, and volunteer groups such as Aapda Mitra, Civil Defence, and Bharat Scouts & Guides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 2,800 families have been evacuated to 60 relief camps set up in the worst-hit districts West Tripura (48 camps), Khowai (3), Unakoti (3), and North Tripura (6). Relief efforts are ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several roads in North Tripura, Unakoti, Dhalai, and West Tripura were temporarily blocked due to landslides and uprooted trees, though authorities managed to clear most of them promptly. Restoration work continues, with teams from PWD, Forest Department, SDRF, and Quick Response Units on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preliminary reports estimate 201 houses damaged, including 92 severely and 109 partially, mainly in Gomati, Khowai, Sepahijala, and North Tripura. Detailed assessments are underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Howrah River at Agartala was measured at 10.91 meters at 5 PM above the danger mark. However, officials report a receding trend since late afternoon, with constant monitoring in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Minister [Name], along with senior officials and the Agartala Mayor, visited several flood-hit localities and relief camps including Chandrapur, Pratapgarh English Medium School, Vivekananda School, Tulsibati School, B. R. Ambedkar School, and Pragati School. The CM interacted with displaced residents, assured support, and directed officials to ensure timely relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Agartala city\u2019s stormwater infrastructure comprising 17 pump houses has helped manage the situation, though high rainfall within a short span yesterday led to brief waterlogging in some areas. Officials say the situation was resolved within 2\u20133 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities have urged citizens to stay away from rivers and low-lying areas, and to strictly follow evacuation and safety advisories issued by the district administrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
