Agartala, 13 May 2025: <\/strong>In a landmark development for Tripura\u2019s energy sector, Oil India Limited (OIL) has officially commenced exploration and production activities in the state by spudding the well Debtamura#1 at location TUL-B under the DSF-II block AA\/ONDSF\/TULAMARA\/2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the first oil and gas well being drilled in Tripura under the Government of India\u2019s Hydrocarbon Exploration and Licensing Policy (HELP). The ceremonial spudding was attended by key dignitaries and senior officials, including Shri Rupjyoti Phukan, RCE, OIL; Maj General (Retd.) Praveen Mathur, Advisor – Security (DGH); Smt. Sutirtha Paul, Joint Director, Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Government of Tripura; Shri Chitra Mohan Borah, Executive Director and HoD, Frontier Basin Project, OIL; Shri Arunav Baruah, Chief General Manager (FB), OIL; and Shri Pankaj Kumar Biswas, General Manager, GAIL, among others. Located inside the Baramura-Debtamura Reserve Forest in Gomati district, approximately 120 km from Agartala, Debtamura#1 sits near the Indo-Bangladesh international border. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The terrain posed significant challenges from thick vegetation and hilly roads with sharp curves to monsoon-triggered floods and landslides that damaged infrastructure such as well plinths and access roads. Despite these hurdles, the project marks a historic breakthrough in Tripura\u2019s hydrocarbon journey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
